As much as YouTube is usually used for entertainment purposes, there has been a new subgenre in the YouTube community that defies from that stereotype, called StudyTube. Just like the name suggested, these StudyTubers exclusively make content related to studying and education.
Within this genre, you may expect an abundance of study tips and methods videos, alongside ‘study with me’ videos, which is a long video (some reach 4 / 5 hours or more) of people studying, and stationary hauls, ‘journal with me’ videos, and many more. These are basically the types of video StudyTubers makes over and over again, or perhaps with some variation of vlogs and routines videos. Whatever it is, videos they make not only attempt to encourage productivity, they also romanticize and make studying as a part of their identity.
The movie; “Dead Poets Society”, is a must watch classic. The story is about Mr. Keating, a literature teacher, who taught his students about how important it is to ‘seize the day’ and think for themselves. Although they’re in a conservative highschool that defy those kinds of mindset.
Personally I discovered this movie several months ago. And I was immediately attracted to the fact that the story feels very relatable and honest in portraying the truth behind our education system. Even when I’m watching this years after its release.
Before I continue, I will warn you that there will be major spoilers of the movie. So unless you’re fine with it, I think it is better for you to watch it first.
The sayings “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” has been Indonesia’s motto for years, they say. Implying how despite all of the differences in terms of religion, tribe, and race in this country, it will always last as one. A unity in diversity.
But the status quo is clearly different. With the discrimination happened over these past years, isn’t it just showing how people in Indonesia could not fully understand the motto our ancestors has passed to us?
Whether you are my future self who is currently scrolling through your old posts and crossed upon this writing, or maybe you are just a random person who stumbled across this notes; welcome to a post full of reflections of mine about self-love .
In my opinion, insecurities and low self-esteem is something that every has been going through. Our society has gradually set up this standard of how a person should look like, how a student should have certain grades to be accepted by everyone, and how certain values should change because “it’s not the majorities”. Standards that has gone far too toxic for everyone.
Teenagers and young adults are doing things like self-harm, extremely unhealthy ‘diet’, or just basically anxious that their opinion won’t be accepted by the public because of it. Number of people committing suicide are increasing every year, but we still need more people who truly cares about those issues.
Therefore, I think it’s a great time for me to write some messages of the things I’ve learned these past years about loving and understanding myself. I hope that these notes can be a reminder for everyone who’s currently going through the crazy roller coaster of life. So just sit back, relax, and let the words speaks to you on a personal level.
#1 If you have the personality of a ‘people-pleaser’, or maybe your schedule is so hectic until you barely care about yourself. Take a break. Believe me, it’s not wrong to please yourself when things every once in a while as a reward. Snuggle up in your comfy blanket. Entertain yourself with a good book, maybe even a movie or TV show that you always want to watch. Listen to the songs you missed out on. And understand that your mind, body, and soul might need some love as well.
#2 Living in a city could means that you live in the center of attraction. Many high-quality facilities are available at the tip of your hand. But it also means the nonstop hustle of its people who seem to be chasing time. And I’m sure that everyone should take a break from this busy life. Go somewhere a little quieter. I recommend you places like a small park or somewhere you can connect with nature. Admire how the sky looks, how the stars shine and could seem so magical. Breath in the fresh air, and start to appreciate every little things in life that you might not notice before.
#3 If your mind seems to be lost all the time, keep calm and try to write a journal, where you can express all of your feelings and thoughts that you don’t want to share with other people. By writing a journal and reading it occasionally, it could really make you understand and know yourself more than before. You will understand the patterns of your behaviour and how it changes from time to time. Therefore, I think it is a great way to get back on track and to know what you actually want in life.
#4 Surround yourself with positive friends and don’t be scared to shut out the ones who brings negativity to your life. Because when you’re at your worst condition and you can not love yourself, your friends are the one who is going to affect you personally. So be in a friendship where everyone understand and will always be there for each other.
#5 Haters are gonna hate, and you need to keep improving. Be sure and think about what you desire in life. Then strive to achieve those things that you want, not the things that other people want.
Finally, to end this messages compilation, I’ll remind you once more to keep loving yourself and accept both your weaknesses and strengths. I hope you find it somewhat helpful, and see you in my next post!
Time has passed, and a character has revised. This is what happened to the character Princess Jasmine in the new live-action version of the movie ‘Aladdin’. In the original movies, we know her as a princess who dislike to be isolated from the other world. Although she and her father argued quite a lot about it, it is undeniable that she care so much about him. But sadly, we didn’t get to see the full potential of this character in that movie.
That’s why when I watched the newest version of Aladdin, I was amused by the character development in Princess Jasmine. She was portrayed as a young independent princess, who are not afraid to speak up whenever something is not right in her opinion. She is full of knowledge and dreams of the future Agrabah, until she always wanted to be the next Sultan. All of her immense bravery, independence, and other values made me think that the character and movie could promote women empowerment. Therefore I believe all of us can learn something from her.
In order to celebrate the BTS 5th Anniversary, I made another BTS’ song cover. But I can’t tell you yet what the song is because I will upload it at June 13th. This song is the main song of BTS’ new album, Love Yourself: Tear, that became the number one song on Billboard top 200 about a week ago. That’s why I decided to cover this song and make it as a gift for their 5th Anniversary.
I actually got the idea to cover BTS’ song from about 3 weeks ago, and my previous idea is covering 6 BTS’ songs (from 2013- 2018) and then uploading one song every day from six days before BTS Anniversary date. But when I tought about it again, I immediately canceled the idea because I don’t think I can cover and record it in a short period of time and also seeing that I have to go to my grandma’s house soon for Idul Fitri.
After I left that first idea, I tought that I will make a medley from a few songs that represent BTS’ albums from 2013-2018. But again I realized that I already made a medley from few of BTS songs not long ago so I don’t want to make it again.
So, rather than making a big project, I only made this special cover that took almost a week to make. And beside the cover project, I also gonna post something on this blog about BTS on June 13th aswell. So, just wait for it!
Today, I have an important annoucement to all my friends that are following my blog.
From now on, this blog will permanently using English as the main languange in (maybe) all of my post. The reason I make this decision is, a few month ahead I’m gonna be entering my Junior High School that using English as the main language. So, for the preparation, I will practice my English by writing in English more often, so that hopefully when I enter my new school, my English will be better than it use to be.
If you don’t mind, you can help me to improve my English by giving any comment or suggestion in every posting that I’ll make. Thank you..
